President Donald Trump and President Emmanuel Macron of France had lunch Saturday afternoon and the two briefly spoke with reporters about the G7 summit they are attending.
Watch:
Macron spoke a bit more about the agenda for the G7, including discussions about gender equality, climate and biodiversity — “hot topics,” as he described.
“We know the divergences we have on climate… but our cooperation will be to reduce carbon emissions,” Macron said.
“This will be very important. We will be allies, friends.”
POTUS spoke briefly at the conclusion of Macron’s remarks. He said he and his French counterpart “actually have a lot in common” and “have been friends a long time.”
“We all remember the Eiffel Tower dinner and that was a very good beginning,” POTUS said. “Once in a while we go at it just a little bit, not very much.”
POTUS mentioned that the U.S. will be hosting the G7 next year, while complimenting the weather here in France. “So far, so good. The weather is fantastic. Everybody’s getting along. I think we will accomplish a lot this weekend.”
Secretary Mnuchin, Amb. Bolton, Jared Kushner and Stephanie Grisham were also present, but standing off to the side.
