The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, the Health and Human Services Officer of Inspector General and other law enforcement officials held a press conference Thursday afternoon to discuss a recent major law enforcement action against Medicare fraud.
U.S. Attorney David Anderson announced that they have charged 30 entities – 28 people and 2 companies – with illegally offering or taking kickbacks (bribes) in order to defraud Medicare and lying to officers or otherwise obstructing the investigation.
The kickbacks were paid mostly through envelopes of cash, but event tickets and other non-cash bribes were also provided in exchange for illegally referring patients to AHHCi and Advent Care providers.
