PHARR, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge intercepted $2,305,000 worth of methamphetamine that was being smuggled from Mexico.
“Our officers’ continued resolve was evidenced once again with this outstanding seizure of hard narcotics,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “This was definitely a good strike against the drug smuggling organizations and their goal of bringing dangerous drugs into our country.”
CBP officers working at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge on Oct. 27 encountered a 59-year-old male Mexican citizen from Reynosa, Tamaulipas driving a green Ford F-150 pickup truck arriving from Mexico. A CBP officer referred the man and truck for further inspection, which resulted in the discovery of 24 packages of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the tires. CBP OFO utilized non-intrusive imaging (NII) equipment to locate the drugs, which weighed 115.25 pounds (52.28 kg).
CBP OFO seized the methamphetamine, the pickup and arrested the Reynosa resident, subsequently releasing him to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), for further investigation.
