CBP Officers Make a Double Play As They Intercept Hard Narcotics Worth More Than $2.9M

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) CBP officers at Laredo Port of Entry were successful in seizing two separate loads of hard narcotics with a combined value of over $2.9 million.

“Our frontline officers continued their strict vigilance this weekend and their determination and commitment to the border security mission resulted in two significant hard narcotics seizures totaling over $2.9 million,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.

Both seizures occurred on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge. The first seizure occurred when CBP officers seized 140 pounds of alleged methamphetamine, concealed in 120 packages within a 1990 Volkswagen van. The vehicle was driven by a 54-year-old male Mexican citizen from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

The second seizure also occurred on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when CBP officers referred a 2017 Nissan Sentra. The vehicle was driven by a 48-year-old female Mexican citizen who resides in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. During a canine and a non-intrusive imaging inspection, CBP officers discovered 24 pounds of alleged cocaine in 10 packages concealed within the vehicle.

The seized narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $2,987,447.

CBP seized the narcotics and the vehicles. The drivers were arrested and the cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
