LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge intercepted hard narcotics totaling $1.3 million in street value.
“Drug trafficking organizations are continually evolving concealment techniques, becoming sophisticated in their methods of avoiding detection,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Fortunately, CBP is equipped with drug detection technologies that help us stay abreast of the new trends.”
The seizure occurred on Sunday, May 10, when a CBP officer referred a 2002 GMC Sierra for a secondary inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 46-year-old female U.S. citizen traveling from Mexico. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of 48 packages weighing 68.69 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle.
The narcotics have an estimated street value of $1,373,906.
CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle. The driver was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
