CBP Officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge Seize $2.7 Million in Methamphetamine

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine, hidden within a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe.

“Our CBP officers remain committed in securing our borders and keeping these dangerous narcotics off our streets,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.  “Our officers’ continued hard work and dedication to our border security mission led to this significant seizure.”

Buckets containing 137.57 pounds of methamphetamine
seized by CBP officers at Brownsville Port of Entry.

The seizure took place on Wednesday, Jun. 17, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge when a 72-year-old male Mexican citizen applied for entry into the United States driving a tan 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver was referred to CBP secondary for further examination. In secondary, CBP officers utilized a non-intrusive imaging system (NII) and a canine unit, discovering multiple packages with a total of 137.57 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden within the SUV.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine from the seizure is $2,751,341.

CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
