CBP Officers Intercept Close to $1 Million in Cocaine at Gateway International Bridge

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers intercepted hard narcotics with an estimated street value of almost $1 million at Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas.

“Our frontline CBP officers at the Port of Brownsville yet again affirmed their resolve to advance CBP’s border security mission and that commitment is reflected in this significant cocaine interception in the passenger vehicle environment,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.

The seizure occurred on Saturday, June 6 at Gateway International Bridge when CBP officers conducting enforcement operations, referred a red 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee for further inspection.  After utilizing non-intrusive imaging systems (NII) and conducting a canine inspection, officers discovered 24 packages with a total weight of 122 pounds of alleged cocaine concealed within the vehicle.

The narcotics have an estimated street value of $940,000.

CBP officers seized the narcotics. The case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
