Cyber Attacks Force Connecticut Schools To Postpone First Day Of Classes

A cyber attack forced the Hartford Public Schools to delay its first day of classes until Wednesday, according to school announcements.

Classes were set to begin Tuesday, but the ransomware attack compromised critical systems related to transportation, according to a school announcement.

“Everyone at Hartford Public Schools was ready to welcome back our beautiful and capable students in person and remotely. We will provide updates when we have additional information to share,” the announcement said.

Students went back to school Wednesday, according to a Hartford Public Schools tweet.

“We have been informed by Metro Hartford Information Services … that our critical systems have been restored following the ransomware attack,” a second school announcement said.

“Our bus transportation database is once again accessible, allowing us to share complex schedules with our bus company and schools, and to safely transport thousands of students in and around Hartford,” the announcement continued.

The schools are starting “online and in-person,” it said.

Student and employee personal information was not compromised and the Hartford Police Department and FBI are investigating the attack, according to the school system.

The Hartford Police Department directed the Daily Caller News Foundation to the City of Hartford, which didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. The Hartford Public Schools did not immediately respond to the DCNF.
