BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Los Indios International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine, hidden within a red 2018 Toyota Camry.
“Our mission of keeping our border secure remains a top priority for our agency. This important seizure highlights our officers’ commitment to stop these dangerous narcotics from entering our country and keep them off our streets,” said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.
The seizure took place on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Los Indios International Bridge when a 25-year-old female United States citizen applied for entry into the United States driving a red 2018 Toyota Camry. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. In secondary, with the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system (NII) and a canine unit, CBP officers discovered 20 packages which contained a total of 23.98 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.
The estimated street value of the methamphetamine from the seizure is $479,720.
CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned her over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
