Border Patrol seizes more than $3M Worth of Drugs in the Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas – Since Monday, Rio Grande Valley agents seized more than 2200 pounds of marijuana, and nearly 40 pounds of methamphetamine in separate incidents.

On Monday, Rio Grande City agents received information of a house in Salineno, Texas, suspected of being used to hide narcotics. Agents responded to the location along with the Texas Department of Public Safety and spoke to the homeowner. After the homeowner consented to search the property, agents and troopers discovered more than 1822 pounds of marijuana worth more than $1.4M dollars in a shed adjacent to the property.

That same day, agents and Customs and Border Protection officers working in Roma, Texas, observed several people make landfall on the U.S. riverbank. As the people walked north, agents and officers observed them carrying bundles of drugs. As they attempted to arrest them, the smugglers dropped the bundles and fled to Mexico. An immediate search of the area led to the discovery of more than 91 pounds of marijuana worth more than $73K.

This morning, agents working near La Casita, Texas, observed multiple drug smugglers walk north of the Rio Grande after they illegally entered the United States. As the agents identified themselves, the smugglers abandoned the bundles and fled to Mexico. A search of the brush led to the discovery of more than 321 pounds of marijuana worth more than $257K.

Additionally, agents seized nearly 40 pounds of methamphetamine valued at more than $1.2M.

Border Patrol processed the cases accordingly.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
