HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a 21-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen after detecting $2,278,000 worth of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the pickup truck she was driving.
“Our frontline officers continue to work hard and remain dedicated to the CBP mission of keeping dangerous drugs out of our communities,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “Interceptions of hard narcotics like this are indicative of the effectiveness displayed by our officers every day, as they conduct daily enforcement operations.”
On Jan. 23, 2021, a CBP officer at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge encountered the woman arriving from Mexico in a pickup truck and referred her for further inspection. A thorough secondary examination utilizing all available tools and resources, including the assistance of a (canine team), allowed the officers to discover packages of suspected narcotics hidden within the vehicle. Officers extracted 14 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 114 pounds (51.66 kg).
CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the woman, who was ultimately turned over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) while they continue with the investigation.
