Now ‘Secure’: Capitol Hill BREACHED, One Person Killed

The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate went into recess as the Capitol Building locked down after election protesters pushed their way inside.

The National Guard, under Justice Department Control, was called in to clear the Capitol Building and surrounding area along with DHS and Capitol Police.

The effort to clear the Capitol Building began around 5:00 p.m. By 5:15, protesters had been pushed out of the Capitol and down the steps. Just before 6:00 p.m., officials declared the Capitol Building “secure.”

All of the electoral ballots and certificates were removed to an undisclosed location by a staffer before the Senate chamber was breached.

At least one person, only identified as a female, was shot in the neck or chest and has died.

President Trump issued a statement on Twitter asking for calm:

According to reports, protesters gained access to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office where her email was left open, unsecured.

Capitol Hill police barricaded inside the House chamber with weapons drawn as election protesters breached the Capitol.

At least one protester reached the Senate chamber, held up his fist and proclaimed that Trump had won the election.

In response to the protest, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser has put a 6 p.m. curfew in place that will extend until 6 a.m. Thursday.
