Congress Officially Names Biden President-Elect

In a joint session that lasted into the early hours of Thursday morning, Congress named the 46th President of the United States.

With muted fanfare and no further objections, Congress made President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris official at 3:45 a.m. EST – just hours after protesters breached the Capitol Building.

President Donald Trump said that there would be an “orderly transition” in a statement made public by a senior aide.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

Dan Scavino posted the statement to Twitter as the social media giant had locked Trump’s account Wednesday and threatened a permanent ban.

All 306 electoral votes awarded by the states were certified by Congress. The objections to Arizona and Pennsylvania’s votes were overwhelmingly defeated as many who had planned to question those votes demurred after the breach. The Senate voted against the Arizona objection 93-6 and shot down the Pennsylvania objection in a 92-7 vote.

“The country faces its next major election next year when Congress answers to the people in the mid-term vote.”

The electoral certification session was suspended for several hours Wednesday when protesters breached the Capitol Building, pushed through Capitol Hill Police, and gained access to both Chambers of Congress and several Congressional offices.

The joint session reconvened at 8 p.m. EST with a salvo of tone-deaf speeches by members of Congress and about 8 hours later, they named the incoming leader of the nation.
