DEVELOPING: Package Containing White Powder, Written Death Threat Mailed to Home of Sen. Rand Paul

Both the FBI and Capitol Hill police are now investigating a “suspicious package” reported to have been delivered Monday to the home of Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

In addition to an unidentified white powder that is undergoing screening for harmful substances, the package contained a doctored image of the senator in a full-body cast with a stylized rifle pointed at his temple, captioned with “I’ll finish what your neighbor started you motherf—–”.

The threat refers to a 2017 incident in which Paul was physically assaulted by neighbor Rene Albert Boucher, an anesthesiologist and registered Democrat, over an alleged landscaping dispute. The run-in with Boucher left Paul with six broken ribs and a damaged lung that required partial removal.

This comes after Paul has once again drawn the widespread ire of the political left after his recent public disclosure of his refusal to be vaccinated for COVID-19, citing studies of antibodies which suggest comparatively low chances of reinfection with the disease among those who have already contracted it.

Paul has also regularly challenged the public health positions of Dr. Anthony Fauci, with the two having repeatedly engaged in heated debate on the Senate floor over the epidemiologist’s stances on herd immunity and his de facto endorsements of Democratic COVID policy.
