Delivery Driver Runs Over Customers’ Groceries Over Pro-Police Lawn Sign

Police in Blaine, Minnesota, a northern suburb of Minneapolis, are investigating an incident in which a driver for Instacart, a web-based grocery delivery service, allegedly ran over an elderly couple’s groceries after leaving a receipt covered in anti-police screed on their door.

KMSP, a Minneapolis-St. Paul FOX affiliate, reports:

According to Blaine police, on Dec. 6 the couple reported that they had placed a grocery order from a local Cub Foods, with delivery through Instacart. They told police that once they received a notification that the driver was at their house, they decided to meet the driver outside due to the amount of snow in their driveway and being worried the driver may get stuck.

When the couple opened the front door, the delivery driver yelled for them to check inside of their Christmas wreath, where they found a receipt with a derogatory message. A family member of the couple specified that the message, written in bold marker, said, “Instacart doesn’t pay employees sry [sic] find another slave f— the police racist pigs.”

The incident is believed to have been triggered by the driver’s offense at a “Thank You Blaine P.D.” sign on the couple’s front lawn, according to Blaine police chief Brian Podany.

“We’ve seen things with signs in the past, but something this brazen is really unfortunate and really uncalled for,” Podany told CBS Minnesota. “We’re in law enforcement, we get not everybody likes us, we understand that, but don’t take that out on innocent people out there, especially people who are trying to contribute to this person’s livelihood.”

The suspect, a 36-year-old woman from neighboring Coon Rapids, has been identified, and charges are expected to be filed in the near future. Following her arrest, she faces potential misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property, each carrying prison sentences of up to 90 days.

Minneapolis, located less than 20 miles south of Blaine, became a hotbed for Black Lives Matter and the anti-police movement last year following the nationwide backlash sparked by the officer-involved death of George Floyd.
