Laredo CBP Officers Seize Hard Narcotics Worth Over $1 Million

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers seized narcotics in two enforcement actions that totaled over $1,000,000 in street value.

“Dedicated employees of CBP have continued to fulfill the agency’s border security role,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “Enforcement successes such as these two seizures help protect the American people, safeguard our borders, and advance our national security priorities.”

Packages containing more than 106 pounds of cocaine
seized by CBP officers at World Trade Bridge.

The first enforcement action occurred on Dec. 17, 2021, at the World Trade Bridge, after CBP officers encountered a commercial truck manifesting stone tile arriving from Mexico. The 1998 Freightliner tractor and trailer were referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of 38 packages containing 106.52 pounds of alleged cocaine within trailer. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $821,440.

The second enforcement action occurred on Dec. 20, 2021, at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, when a CBP officer assigned to the Juarez Lincoln Bridge referred a commercial bus making entry from Mexico for secondary inspection. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of four packages containing 11.99 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the bus. The narcotics had an estimated street value of $239,860.

The narcotics in both seizures combined have an estimated street value of $1,061,300.

CBP seized the narcotics, bus, and trailer in connection with the alleged smuggling attempts. The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
