ABC News suspended “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg after she falsely declared on Monday, repeatedly, that the holocaust was not about race because it was between groups of white people… or something.
Goldberg went on an apology tour beginning Monday night on Twitter where she unequivocally said she was wrong. It was a strong apology without the usual “but” and “because” that most liberals use to explain an incident instead of atoning for it. For that, respect is deserved. She followed up the Tweet on Tuesday with an on-air apology.
“As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected,” she wrote.
She then got sent to her room for two weeks.
“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” ABC News president Kim Godwin said in a statement.
While the punishment is deserved, not everyone is pleased with how long it took to happen.
“People are really upset and don’t understand why it took two days,” an ABC executive told The Daily Beast.
While I disagree with Whoopi’s initial statements that the holocaust was some white people not getting along, there is an interesting perspective here.
She apparently sees Jewish people and the more general “white people” as the same. European Caucasians and Jews have entirely separate histories and, in fact, the very tragedy she mentioned is about a group of European Caucasians attempting to wipe out the entirety of the Jewish people.
Her failure is a misunderstanding of history and of color. Since Obama’s election, color is all many see while they ignore everything else. The ‘everything else’ is what makes us unique and/or exceptional – not our color.
Author’s Note: As always, if you think I have this wrong, let me have it in the comments. I’m always learning.
