Border Crisis: Officers Seize over $350K in Cocaine at International Bridge

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted $381,000 worth of alleged cocaine in two separate incidents.

 “Our CBP officers rely on their experience and all available tools and resources to thwart smuggling attempts at our ports of entry, and preventing harmful narcotics from getting to American streets,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On April 10, 2022, CBP officers conducting inbound enforcement operations at the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a white Ford Expedition making entry from Mexico. The vehicle was selected for inspection utilizing non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment. After physically inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered five packages of alleged cocaine weighing 11.81 pounds (5.36kg) concealed within the vehicle.

On April 11, 2022, CBP officers conducting inbound enforcement operations at the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a white Chevrolet Equinox making entry from Mexico. The vehicle was selected for inspection utilizing non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment. After physically inspecting the vehicle, officers extracted 15 packages of alleged cocaine weighing 37.69 pounds (17.1 kg) concealed within the vehicle.

CBP OFO seized the narcotics and vehicles, and the cases remain under investigation by special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI).
