The Florida House of Representatives sent a bill to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk Thursday that will dissolve Disney World’s special governance privileges in the state if the governor signs.
The Senate passed the bill Wednesday that will eradicate The Reedy Creek Improvement zone that was granted to Disney more than 50 years ago. With the dissolution, Disney will lose special taxing, environmental, emergency services, and permitting rights. The massive company will now have to operate as any other in Orange and Osceola counties.
Disney chose to wade into local politics when it promised a legal fight over Florida’s parental rights law that forbids sexual educational content before 4th grade and the legislature and governor felt that if Disney wanted to jump into politics, it shouldn’t have its own special governing rules.
