Call it Anything, Abortion is Still Killing

By Ray Cardello for June 27, 2022 Season 11 / Post 31

The Left is great with labels. Come up with something catchy, and you can change the meaning to something softer or more complex to fit your needs. They have been doing it with Inadvertent Climate Modification, Global Warming, and most recently, Climate Change to describe the end of the world coming just around the corner. For sixty years, they have told us of the impending doom and, when it does not happen, change the name.

For about the same time frame, the left has been playing the name game with Abortion. From its origin as simply Abortion to The Right to Choose, Reproductive Rights, to now a Woman’s Right to Privacy. I never understood the reproductive rights moniker, for how does a procedure that ends in the death of a fetus in any way reproductive? As for the right to privacy, from what? The killing of an unborn was never a publicized event.

There are so many sides to examine when discussing the topic of abortion. Should it be banned completely? Should there be a limit to how far into the pregnancy a fetus can be aborted? Should there be provisions for cases of rape or incest? Should there be an age requirement for the woman seeking an abortion? Should a sonogram of the fetus be presented to the mother before the final decision is reached? All valid questions worthy of debate, not protesting.

There have been 63 Million fetuses aborted since 1973. Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States generally protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion. The decision struck down many U.S. federal and state abortion laws.

Roe v. Wade took the abortion decision away from the states and made it a federal law. Many have felt since its adoption that this ruling was not supported by the Constitution and might someday be overturned by a more traditional thinking Court. That is what has culminated this week.

Overturning Roe v. Wade did not ban abortion on a federal level. It put the onus back on each individual state to rule on the legality of the abortion process. This put the decision in the hands of the people. There will be states where abortion is illegal, and a woman living in this state will need to travel elsewhere for the procedure. There will be states with differing numbers of weeks into the pregnancy where an abortion can be performed and states with no restrictions.

This process is the beauty of a Republic. We have fifty different local governments, and you can choose to live in whichever matches your philosophical make-up. Twenty-six states have either passed strict abortion bills this year or had bills ready to be triggered if Roe v. Wade was overturned. You can see on the map I included that the Northeast and West Coast are the areas where abortions are still allowed with little or no restrictions.

I realize I will take some heat for even writing this article. Some will say that being a man In have no say in the matter. I will debate anyone who challenges my view. As a man and a Catholic, like Pelosi and Biden, I can absolutely be against killing millions of unborn babies. Unlike Pelosi and Biden, I do not have to abandon my convictions for votes. I believe that life begins with conception, and an abortion at any time during pregnancy kills a human being.

Because of my views and convictions, I celebrated yesterday’s Supreme Court decision. I thought it would never happen, but it has happened thanks to Donald Trump and his efforts to put Justices on the Court to create a more conservative judicial branch than we have had in my lifetime.
