Democrat-Run Border Town Buses Illegal Migrants To NYC

The Democrat-run city of El Paso, Texas, recently started busing illegal migrants to New York City amid a record border surge.

The city’s government, which is run by Democratic mayor Oscar Leeser, bused a group of 35 Venezuelan migrants to New York City to address the influx of illegal border crossings, El Paso Matters reported Friday. A second bus boarded 18 passengers on Friday, according to the outlet.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorities have encountered over 1,900,000 migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border since October.

“OEM (Office of Emergency Management) has sponsored and provided transportation services for migrants out of El Paso, which is reimbursable through (the Federal Emergency Management Agency),” Deputy City Manager Mario D’Agostino said, according to El Paso Matters. “OEM has sponsored charter buses to include a recent transport to New York City, this was the preferred destination for those without any means to travel.”

The move follows Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent decision in early August to bus illegal migrants to the Big Apple. Abbott has also been busing illegal migrants to Washington, D.C., since April.

“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” Abbott said when he announced the effort.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has criticized Abbott’s actions, saying the city doesn’t have the resources to support the illegal migrants.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser similarly complained about the effort, saying that the migrants were “tricked” into coming to the nation’s capital. Migrants who spoke with the Daily Caller News Foundation debunked Bowser’s claim.

The city of El Paso didn’t respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.
