‘She Doesn’t Care’: Tucker Lauds Kari Lake For Punching Back Against Media Critics

Fox News host Tucker Carlson praised Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake of Arizona Thursday evening as a model for handling the “liberal media.”

“If The New York Times did a piece on Mitch McConnell he’d be rushing around his office worried about it. The New York Times does a hit piece on Kari Lake every day and she laughs because it doesn’t matter what The New York Times thinks,” Carlson said. “They only have power because we give them power because we treat them like they’re real. But they’re fake. They are ghosts. Turn on the lights and they evaporate and go away. They don’t actually exist. They are a fantasy that can only continue as long as we participate. So in attacking the media, what Kari Lake is really doing is standing up to institutional power.”

Lake, a former television news anchor who received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, narrowly wonthe Republican primary over Karrin Taylor Robson in August. Carlson said her background in news posed a threat to the media.

“She spent 30 years in television news. So, when Kari lake says the media are corrupt, she is not guessing, she lived in the middle of it for decades. This is a deeply unsettling message for Democrats to hear because it strikes at the heart of their power,” Carlson said. “Without the complicity of the media, there is no chance neoliberal Democrats could get elected to office. Not one of them, ever. They’ve nothing to offer you. It’s not like they are improving the country, if you’ve looked around. No, they need the media. The media are all they have. The liberal media, they’re not just annoying, they’re the key to the whole system. Take them away and everything changes.”

“So it’s essential to the people in charge that voters believe the news coverage they see and read is real, that it conveys facts and not simply crude North Korea-style political propaganda,” Carlson said.

Lake explained that many people didn’t watch local news, and described how many reporters operated.

“I just decided to start bringing a camera and a microphone and turning the camera on them,” the former news anchor explained. “Here’s how it goes: They throw you a question, it’s loaded with a whole bunch of garbage. There’s obviously an agenda in their question and a soliloquy. And then they get you to answer, but they cut their part out so they don’t look like a fool. Well, we decided to put their part out on the internet and showing people what the media is up to.”

Lake urged Republicans to fight back against the media. Earlier this week, Lake showed reporters a list of dozens of instances where Democrats denied election results.

“Let’s face it. The Republican Party has the ideas that work. We’ve got the common-sense ideas. The Republicans have been running from that rather than going out and showing people we have the good ideas,” Lake said. “We don’t have to allow the left and the liberals in the media to dictate what we are talking about. We need to dictate what we’re talking about. We have the better ideas. We are on the right side of things.”
