“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” will be an oft-uttered phrase this week as a blast of cold air, high winds, rain, and heavy snow impact much of the country this week.
The arctic air has already dipped into the Northern plains and upper Midwest and is expected to push through the Central and Southern Plans through mid-week.
Thursday morning will bring temperatures as low as -24 to Billings, Montana, and -2 to Amarillo, Texas, but the coldest wake-up is forecast to be in Eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska, where lows could hit minus 65 degrees.
All of those dangerously low temperatures will be made much worse by the high winds associated with the frontal system. Friday morning will push much of the upper Midwest’s wind chill numbers from -33 in Kansas City and -46 in Bismark, North, Dakota. Amarillo and Oklahoma City could feel like -19 by morning.
The cold air and precipitation will impact the east coast overnight Thursday and into Friday and is the cold is expected to persist well past Christmas.
Keep those pipes warm, fuel up the generator, bring in some extra firewood, stock up on storm food (no, not milk sandwiches), and keep your pets safe because the weather outside will “be frightful.”
