Nearly 75% Of Voters Want To Ban Taxpayer Funding To Chinese Companies: POLL

A new poll released Wednesday found that nearly 75% of American voters want to cease all taxpayer funding to Chinese companies on both the state and federal levels.

The White House announced earlier this week that the Chinese app, TikTok, must be removed from government devices in the next thirty days due to concerns that the platform is being used as spyware, according to Reuters. The poll from the Convention of States Action, an organization dedicated to calling for a Convention of States to amend the Constitution, and The Trafalgar Group, a polling and survey company, found that a significant majority of Americans, 74.1%, want federal and state governments to cut ties with companies with ties to the Chinese government.

“Removing CCP-backed infrastructure, operations, products and influence from the U.S. is going to be a herculean task,” President of Convention of States Mark Meckler said in a press release. “We have never had a national enemy so deeply embedded in so many aspects of American society. The good news is, at a time when all we hear about is how divided we are, the American people are united in their desire to remove malign Chinese Communist Party influence from our country.”

Voters in both political camps indicated their concerns about the Chinese government’s interference in the U.S. government with 64.8% of Democrats and 81.5% of Republicans saying they were in favor of ending public funding, according to the poll. Americans that claimed no affiliation with either party were also strongly supportive of the measure at 75.2%.

The poll’s respondents were made of 39.3% Democrats with Republicans not far behind at 35.6%, while independents came in at 25.1%. Female voters made up 53.3% of poll respondents compared to 46.7% of their male counterparts.

Black and Hispanic Americans made up 12.3% and 11. 5% of respondents, respectively, while Asian voters came in at 3.9% and white Americans made up 71.2% of the respondents, according to the poll.

“Removing TikTok from government devices—while grossly overdue—is at least a tiny step in the right direction,” Meckler said. “TikTok should be completely banned from the U.S. on every level. The CCP has banned it in China, and yet is allowed to use the platform as a spying, data collection, and psychological warfare tool against our own country.”

The poll was conducted from Feb. 22 to Feb. 23 with 1,084 “likely general election voters” with a response rate of 1.46% and a margin of error of 2.9%.
