A rival cable channel predicted it would see a boost in ratings Monday following the sudden departure of Tucker Carlson from Fox News Channel.
“For a while Fox News has been moving to become establishment media and Tucker Carlson’s removal is a big milestone in that effort,” Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy said in a statement released Monday by a network spokesman. “Millions of viewers who liked the old Fox News have made the switch to Newsmax and Tucker’s departure will only fuel that trend.”
Fox News announced Carlson’s departure from the network Monday morning, saying they had “agreed to part ways.” The network will use rotating hosts to anchor news coverage at the 8 p.m. time slot where “Tucker Carlson Tonight” previously aired, host Harris Faulkner said.
Carlson’s departure came less than a week after Fox News settled a lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million, averting a trial that could have seen Carlson and other network personalities forced to testify. Carlson is a co-founder of the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Fox News also parted ways with host Dan Bongino, who announced his departure Thursday.
Newsmax averaged 113,000 primetime viewers in the first quarter of 2023, according to Forbes.
Newsmax did not respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
