Fox News and Tucker Carlson have “agreed to part ways,” FNC said Monday.
Harris Faulkner announced the move on Fox News Channel, saying: “We have some news from within our Fox family. Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have mutually agreed to part ways. Tucker’s last show was this past Friday. … We want to thank Tucker Carlson for his service to the network as host and prior to that as a long-term contributor.”
Carlson ended Friday’s episode saying, “We’ll be back on Monday.” Indicating that this was a sudden move by the network.
Shares of Fox dropped almost 5% after the announcement as Tucker was the network’s most-watched personality and his show was the most-watched across all cable news, making FNC’s move even more curious.
Neither the network nor Carlson have given a reason for the departure, but Donald Trump, jr. reacted to the news saying, “this changes things permanently.”
Fox News Tonight will take over Tucker’s time slot and be hosted by a rotating group of Fox personalities until a permanent host is named.
Tucker has been with Fox since 2009 and Tucker Carlson Tonight first aired in 2016.
The change comes just after the network and Dan Bongino went separate ways after failing to negotiate a new contract and CNN terminated Don Lemon.
