Geraldo: Trump’s “Brilliant” Tariff Strategy: “Why you can’t beat” Trump

As China becomes more and more powerful, in large part due to decisions made by our own [clueless] leaders, Americans and people across the world will increasingly be forced to do things at the behest of the Chinese government.  It’s become clear that liberalizing relations between China and the West has not led to more freedom. It’s simply allowed China to create more sophisticated tools for tyranny. … [Trump’s] current trade disruption is a rejection of shameful and un-American kowtowing [boldface added] to a communist regime [and] equally odious acceptance of Chinese-style regulation of thought and speech that Western government, corporate, and educational elites have so eagerly glommed onto. It’s a rejection of a future in which China’s dominance is treated as a fact of life.

                                                                        The Daily Signal. 4/10/25

China is absolutely a danger to the world. It is amassing a ferocious military using American money to fund it.  Each year, the Communist government in Beijing receives $300 billion more in direct trade than the USA does, and China has to sell its stuff in America or its economy will drastically recede.   Therefore, … Trump’s primary objective in this tariff controversy is to isolate and weaken China. … [He] has paused onerous tariffs on all countries except China [and] raised import duties on [China] to 125 percent. … That’s the plan, …  Trump is … using economics to weaken potential military enemies.  All Americans should hope the strategy works.

Bill O’Reilly, 4/10/25

I believe [Trump] ambushed China [and] suckered the whole world into believing he was going to go down … this suicide mission against the world. … [But] isn’t the problem, China? … China’s been cleaning our clock for a long time, making a lot of money on the U.S. trade in a lot of different ways.  Dumping product, not taking ours … And then look what [Trump] does. …  [What he did] was brilliant. … [T]this is why Trump is triumphant. This is why you can’t beat this guy.”

                                                                        Geraldo Rivera, 4/10/25

This is a time for Trump to cash in.  He’s got everybody on the run.  I think it was bait and switch.  He lulled the Chinese.  [Now] he has this coup [boldface added].  China is exposed.  … This is Trump triumphant, Trump at his best. … Now that he’s won, he pivots from crazy, radical, nobody knows what he’ll do next … to statesman, America the leader, let’s make a deal.  He’s excellent at that.

                                                                        Geraldo, 4/12/25

We need someone who believes in this country, someone who’s proud of this country and who will fight for this country.   …  Take any of the greatest fighters of all time.  [Trump is] number 1, the most resilient human being I have met in my life. … This is a fact.  [He] loves this country.  And he loves all Americans, regardless of colour or religion and he’s not a racist.  …. They’re throwing the kitchen sink at him right now [all the lawfare] and he just keeps marching forward.

President of the UFC, Dana White, 6/18/24

The Democrat Party and the Democrat Party Propaganda Collective or DPPC (aka the “mainstream” or “legacy” media), were thrilled when the markets tanked after Trump’s imposition of “onerous” tariffs on many countries around the world that have been taking advantage of the US.  They had a new excuse to dump on Trump who has defeated and humiliated them so many times

The New York Times (4/7/25) trumpeted that “Uncertainty Over Tariffs Leads to Wild Swings in Markets.  … reinforcing fears of a global economic downturn.”  Time Magazine (4/4/25) frets that

Members of Congress from both parties were grappling with … a trade strategy they fear could tank the U.S. economy, drive up consumer prices, and destabilize global markets.  Democrats seized on the market reaction to [decry Trump’s] reckless economic policymaking: “This is uncoordinated, capricious and simply destructive.”

The same article features California Democrat Sen. Adam Schiff’s claim that “[Trump’s] going to tank our economy, and [perhaps] much of the economy around the world.”  This is the same Adam Schiff who lied in 2020 that he had seen non-circumstantial evidence of Trump-Russia collusion but has failed to provide that evidence to the peasants and who, therefore, was found by California voters in 2024 to have the perfect “moral” qualities to represent their state as senator.  True Jersey (4/5/25) snidely remarks that “President Trump … who spent the weekend golfing … celebrates as global markets plunge.”   These are only a sample of the many Democrat and DPPC doom-and-gloom hysterics.

Since the Democrats and DPPC were so terrified that Trump was going to tank the US and, perhaps, the world economy, they, naturally, were thrilled when he paused to heavy tariffs, retaining only the 10% baseline on most countries except for China which is now to be tariffed at a massive 125%.  Actually, no.   MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow (4/10/25) now celebrates that “Trump caves on tariffs” by pausing all the tariffs for 90 days.  The Financial Times (4/10/25) reports that Trump “buckled”.  The left-leaning Guardian of London (4/10/25) asked if Trump’s tariff’s will be China’s gain in global trade wars … and so on.

In fact, one can never understand Trump if one is determined, in the usual Democrat-DPPC script, to understand everything he does in the most negative way possible.   The man who took a bullet to the face and jumped up to yell “fight, fight, fight” and who faced-down all the Democrat’s corrupt lawfare and kept moving forward is not going to “cave” to anyone.

Geraldo, who has been a severe Trump critic, reasons it out properly.  Since China is the real problem, Trump set up the tariffs to “ambush” or “sucker” China.  He laid heavy tariffs on the whole world to scare the bejesus out of them to bring them to the negotiating table.   After a plethora of countries rushed to negotiate a better trade deal for the US, Trump warned China not to retaliate, knowing that in order to save face China would have to retaliate big time.   President Xi could not be seen to being handed ultimatums by Trump.  Once China massively retaliated, as Trump knew they would, he reduced the tariffs on all the other countries to a baseline 10% but raised China’s to 125%, thereby isolating China as he leisurely negotiates better trade deals with the rest of the world over 90 days.  This is what Geraldo, recognizing pure Trump, calls Trump’s “coup”.

Trump’s actions were not “uncoordinated, capricious and simply destructive.”  It’s called “strategy” and it worked.   And, sorry Guardian, this is not going to be “China’s gain”.  Quite the contrary.   China is isolated and twisting in the wind now.  Even playing golf as markets tanked was part of Trump’s strategy.  It was his way of letting China know that while everyone else was panicking he was unmoved.

Don’t bother to ask Trump’s critics what strategy they have to deal with the massive China problem because they don’t have any.    They only know how to whine.

As O’Reilly says, “all Americans should hope the strategy works.”  Unfortunately, the Democrat Party and DPPC don’t.  They would sooner hurt the country to damage Trump.  As Geraldo observes, Trump always plays to win, something the pampered princesses in the Democrat Party and DPPC “news” rooms will never understand.
