Trump Admin Fires National Security Council Staff In Droves

The Trump administration reportedly dismissed a handful of staffers at the National Security Council (NSC) on Friday, according to The Washington Post.

Since January, President Donald Trump’s second administration has been shaking up Washington, D.C. in accordance with the president’s agenda, firing a handful of employees across various departments. While it is unclear how many NSC staffers have been let go, among those reportedly dismissed include both career officials and political appointees, The Washington Post reported.

The new cuts come after Secretary of State Marco Rubio took over as acting National Security Advisor, replacing former advisor Mike Waltz.

In May, Trump announced his nomination of Waltz to be his Ambassador to the United Nations, following reports that the former advisor would be stepping down from his position following the “Signalgate” controversy.

The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg released a piece in March revealing he had accidentally been added to a group chat on the secure messaging platform Signal, where select Trump cabinet members discussed bombing the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Shortly after, Waltz came under media spotlight, admitting during a Fox News interview that he had created the group chat but denied ever knowing Goldberg or having his number.

According to Axios, Waltz had been struggling to get along with White House staff, with Vice President JD Vance reportedly attempting to aid him in “working more collaboratively.”

Prior to Waltz’s ouster from National Security, Trump had fired several staffers from the NSC in April. The firings notably came after activist Laura Loomer visited the White House and presented the president with research on members of the NSC who were not loyal to Trump, according to Axios.

“We’re always going to let go of people – people we don’t like or people that take advantage of or people that may have loyalties to someone else,” Trump told reporters after the NSC April terminations.
