The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Thursday is launching new online resources intended to tackle questions and concerns about geoengineering and condensation trails, according to a press release first shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The EPA established these new online resources to inform Americans about the latest science, research and other relevant information about contrails and geoengineering, according to the agency. The EPA stated that it is “committed to total transparency with the American public on these topics.”
“Americans have legitimate questions about contrails and geoengineering, and they deserve straight answers,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a statement shared with the DCNF. “We’re publishing everything EPA knows about these topics on these websites.”
The EPA’s new online resource on condensation trails, or “contrails,” will highlight the science behind the phenomenon and also debunk any “myths and misconceptions” on the subject, according to the EPA. Contrails are clouds that form when water vapor condenses and freezes around small particles in aircraft exhaust, according to the UCAR Center for Science Education.
The EPA also said that its new resources will address a variety of claims that contrails are an intentional release of dangerous chemicals or biological agents intended to be used with nefarious intent. In recent years, some people have claimed that contrails are actually the result of chemicals being sprayed by the government intentionally.
The EPA also created a new online resource which is focused on solar geoengineering activities, which are aimed at cooling the Earth by reflecting sunlight back to space, according to the agency. The resource, the EPA says, will provide information on any potentially negative environmental and health impacts that could result from geoengineering activities.
“EPA shares the significant reservations many Americans have when it comes to geoengineering activities,” Zeldin wrote in a statement.
