Chuck Schumer: Legislator Or Obstructionist

If Chuck Schumer (D-NY) were a Republican, he would have been removed from any position of power years ago by his colleagues. In the Democrat Party, he is a feckless superstar. Schumer is a political hack. He is New York’s answer to Maxine Waters with eyeglasses dangling precipitously on the tip of her nose. You would be hard-pressed to find a significant piece of legislation authored by Chuck Schumer, except maybe the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, but I will guarantee that Chuck cannot define an assault weapon. He can find a microphone and is fond of bloviating in front of a camera. Chuck also suffers from a terminal case of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), and as a result of this malady, he must fight against anything that might advance the causes of the 47th President. Chuck suffers from the same laziness as all Democrats in not having solutions, but instead, resorts to hyperbole, which is guaranteed to rile up the masses on the Left. Everything proposed by the Right is either a “threat to democracy,” or “an existential threat to mankind.” Everything that Donald Trump stands for is both to Chuck Schumer.

Schumer is the highest-ranking politician of Jewish descent, but he cannot come out in support of Israel because Donald Trump is one of Israel’s best friends. Schumer’s history makes you question whether he genuinely believes in any policy position. However, sometimes Chuck has been known to go too far. Who can forget him standing on the steps of the Supreme Court, calling out Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh for their part in the reversal of Roe v. Wade? He threatened violence against the conservative judges, and an assassination attempt was made on Kavanaugh. Nothing, of course, happened to Chuck. No Democrats are ever held accountable for their actions, except Bob Menendez.

Chuck is not in a position of genuine power at this time. As Minority Speaker, he does not control enough votes to defeat any action by the Republicans. So all Chuck can do is use the media arm of the Party to amplify his soundbites, and use any obscure procedure he can cook up to obstruct any potential move by the Republicans. Currently, Schumer is holding up the approval of nearly 140 appointments submitted by Donald Trump. Scgumer figures that without his army, Trump will be stymied. He has not read the news, but despite Schumer’s ineffective tactics, Trump is having one of the most successful starts to an administration in history.

While Schumer fights off Trump with procedural games, he is being attacked from within his own ranks. Representative Sandy Cortez is giving every indication that she will run against Schumer for his Senate seat in 2028. Many feel Cortez has a fighter’s chance of upending Schumer and ending his run that started in 1999. Neither will have much to run on but like Nancy Pelosi says, all you need to get elected in New York is a coffee cup with a “D” on it. With Cortez and Schumer, both cups are empty.
