Trump And Putin Hold Joint Press Conference After Big Alaska Summit

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin provided an update Friday on Ukraine-Russia peace talks.

Trump announced on Truth Social last week that he will meet with Putin in Alaska to continue his push for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. During a press conference at the Alaska summit, Trump said there is “no deal until there’s a deal.”

Putin also spoke and claimed that “an agreement was reached.”  The comments suggested negotiations remain in progress, with neither leader offering additional details on the terms discussed.

Trump announced in May that negotiations would begin following a two-hour call with Putin. Despite Trump’s push for peace, Putin remained hesitant to engage with Ukraine.

By July, Trump unveiled a new plan to support Ukraine by supplying offensive weapons and threatening “severe” sanctions and tariffs against Russia, giving Putin 50 days to negotiate. On July 28, Trump abruptly shortened the deadline to just “10 or 12 days.”

Trump doubled down on his vow to impose sweeping secondary tariffs and sanctions targeting key Russian industries. As a final push to jumpstart negotiations, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin, spending three hours discussing the possibility of peace talks.
