Americans’ Approval Of Trump’s Handling Of Israel-Hamas War Surges Following Peace Deal, Poll Shows

Americans’ approval of President Donald Trump’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war has risen significantly since April, according to an Emerson College poll released Friday.

Trump announced on Oct. 8 that he had negotiated a deal between Israel and Hamas securing the release of the remaining hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. In the aftermath of Trump brokering the ceasefire deal, 47% — a plurality —  of voters now approve of his handling of the war between Israel and Hamas, while 34% disapprove, according to the poll.

This marks a double-digit change from Emerson College’s April 30 poll, when only 30% of respondents expressed approval of the president’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war and 46% disapproved.

“Republicans generally approve of Trump’s handling of the war between Israel and Hamas at 80% to 7%, while Democrats disapprove 57% to 19%,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said in a statement. “The shift in overall approval comes from independents, who approve 43% to 38%; in April, independents disapproved 43% to 25%.”

“While voters’ attitudes on Trump’s handling of the war between Israel and Hamas have shifted, it doesn’t appear to have impacted his overall job approval,” Kimball added. “Instead, the president’s disapproval increased by a point since August.”

Though, voters were divided on whether Trump’s second term as president has been more of a success or failure. Of those surveyed, 50% said they view his second term in office as a success and 50% said they think it is a failure.

Moreover, 54% of voters do not think the president deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his actions in Israel and Gaza, while 38% think he does deserve the prize, according to the survey.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Monday celebrated Trump’s clinching the Middle East peace deal, saying in a statement that he applauds the “enormous advocacy of the tireless hostage families, President Trump, his administration, and all who helped make this moment happen.” Additionally, former Vice President Kamala Harris commended Trump’s peace deal in a Monday statement posted to X, writing that she commends “the leaders and partners whose efforts made this agreement possible, including the president and his team.”

Some Palestinians are reportedly concerned that Hamas may not uphold the terms of Trump’s Middle East peace plan.

The Emerson College survey was conducted Oct. 13 to 14, 2025. The sample size was 1,000 U.S. registered voters, and the poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
