Trump Admin Nixing ‘Green New Scam’ Funding Biden Approved In Final Hours

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced Wednesday that it is terminating $7.56 billion in funding for 223 energy projects, almost 30% of which were awarded after Election Day and before President Donald Trump’s return to the Oval Office.

The DOE announced Wednesday that the projects “did not adequately advance the nation’s energy needs, were not economically viable, and would not provide a positive return on investment of taxpayer dollars.” Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought said Wednesday that the DOE would cancel “nearly $8 billion in Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left’s climate agenda,” and the DOE noted that the awards were issued by several different DOE offices including “clean energy” and “renewable energy” offices.

“On day one, the Energy Department began the critical task of reviewing billions of dollars in financial awards, many rushed through in the final months of the Biden administration with inadequate documentation by any reasonable business standard,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Wednesday. “President Trump promised to protect taxpayer dollars and expand America’s supply of affordable, reliable, and secure energy. Today’s cancellations deliver on that commitment. Rest assured, the Energy Department will continue reviewing awards to ensure that every dollar works for the American people.”

Trump campaigned against former President Joe Biden’s energy policies, which centered around his climate agenda, subsidizing green intermittent power sources to the tune of billions and moving to heavily regulate industries that provide reliable power.

The Biden administration rushed to dole out loans and awards under the DOE and the agency’s Loan Program Office (LPO) before Trump returned to office, and Wright has directed his agency to review and cancel several of these awards to steward taxpayer dollars.
