A new tranche of records relating to the 1937 disappearance of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart was released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) on Friday.
The new documents include 4,624 pages related to Amelia Earhart, including filings from the U.S. Navy recording the search for Earhart, documents detailing preparations for Earhart’s globe-spanning flight, news coverage of Earhart’s disappearance, and other materials.
“On September 26, 2025, President Donald J. Trump directed ‘government records related to Amelia Earhart, her final trip, and everything else about her’ be declassified and released,” states the National Archives page hosting the new releases. “This website will be the home of documents and items that are released.”
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard wrote on Friday evening that documents would continue to be updated as more agencies came forward with material.
“These records include reports, maps, and other documents tracing Earhart’s final journey, her last known communications and location, and the initial search following her disappearance,” Gabbard wrote on X. “Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, a historic initiative is underway to digitize and publicly release these records from across the federal government.”
The ODNI did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
“[Earhart] was an Aviation Pioneer, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and achieved many other Aviation ‘firsts,’” the president wrote in September. “Amelia made it almost three quarters around the World before she suddenly, and without notice, vanished, never to be seen again. Her disappearance, almost 90 years ago, has captivated millions.”
The new Earhart records come among a broader declassification effort from the Trump administration, which has seen documents relating to the assassinations of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy also released in 2025.
One notable leader in the quest to uncover the truth regarding Earhart’s disappearance is banking heir Timothy Mellon. The reclusive 83-year-old billionaire recently made headlines for giving an anonymous $130 million donation to pay American troops during the 43-day government shutdown that concluded Wednesday night.
