Democratic New Jersey Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman told constituents Wednesday that her party would impeach President Donald Trump if they took the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Trump previously warned Republicans that Democrats would pursue impeachment if they took control of Congress in the Nov. 3 midterm elections, according to UPI. Coleman hinted during a Wednesday town hall that an impeachment vote might have different results if Democrats win the midterm elections.
“And the only thing that’s gonna remove him is the 25th Amendment, but that would require – no, no, wait a minute – that would require the vice president and members of the cabinet to move against him, but he’s hired a bunch of lackeys, so they’re not going to execute the 25th Amendment,” Coleman told attendees. “But I tell you what, if you elect Democrats to the Senate and to the House, he’ll get impeached. And that’s one way of getting rid of him.”
Coleman also ranted against the capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, Israeli operations against radical Islamic terrorist group Hamas and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations during the hour-long town hall.
The White House and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green forced votes on impeachment resolutions in the House of Representatives on at least two occasions in 2025, both of which were tabled by overwhelming votes.
Trump was impeached twice during his first term in office by a then-Democrat-controlled House of Representatives, once over a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the other time over the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol building. The Senate acquitted Trump after both impeachment trials.
Democrats have recently targeted Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem for impeachment in the wake of a string of shootings involving DHS law enforcement officers. Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot during an immigration enforcement operation on Jan. 7, while an ICE agent wounded one of three illegal aliens in an attempted ambush on Jan. 14. Alex Pretti was shot and killed during a scuffle with immigration officers on Jan. 24, sparking a fresh wave of protests.
Two Border Patrol agents are on leave while the incident involving Pretti is under investigation. Pretti’s parents confirmed he was in a video where he apparently kicked out the taillight of a vehicle used by federal law enforcement officers for their operations, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
