Ronald Reagan’s Son Dead At 80

Michael Reagan, eldest son of the former president, died at the age of 80.

Former Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, now president of Young America’s Foundation, announced Michael’s death in a statement recounting decades of friendship and collaboration rooted in conservative activism and faith. Walker described Michael as a constant presence at Young America’s Foundation events, particularly at the Reagan Ranch in California, where he spoke directly to students about the values that guided his father’s public life.

“Michael Reagan was such a wonderful inspiration to so many of us. That was particularly true of the students who heard him at Young America’s Foundation’s programs at the Reagan Ranch,” Walker wrote. “He did so much more than share stories about his father. He challenged the next generation to share the values he stood for throughout his public life. He called on them to be happy warriors in the battle to uphold the founding principles of our republic. ”

Michael spent nearly two decades as a nationally syndicated conservative radio host before leaving broadcasting to travel the country promoting the values and policy legacy of his father. He served as chairman and president of the Reagan Legacy Foundation, which works to preserve and advance the priorities of the Reagan presidency.

Michael built a long media career as a television commentator and remained active in conservative advocacy and charitable work, including involvement with Young America’s Foundation and adoption-focused nonprofits. He also raised more than $1.5 million for charity through powerboat racing and authored several books reflecting on conservatism, adoption, and his father’s influence.
