Spanberger Makes Quick Work of Destroying Youngkin Progress

Glen Youngkin had a tremendous four-year run as Virginia’s governor. He got the finances in order, leaving a $2.7 billion general fund surplus and $4.7 billion in the rainy day fund. He got the schools back in line after they were hijacked by the progressives, who did everything in their power to take parents out of the education loop. He addressed voting procedures and tightened them to prevent fraud in the election process. He garnered praise for his work from every corner of the country, but, unfortunately, Virginia has a unique law that a governor can only serve a single four-year term. and cannot run for reelection. It has only taken a few short months for newly elected Abigail Spanberger, who ran as a moderate Democrat, to reverse four years of progress and put Virginia back on course to emulate Venezuela. Why does a former CIA agent turned politician hate America so much? She can say she doesn’t hate America, but every act, executive order, and policy reversal goes against the values of our founders, and she has only just begun!

Let’s run down the list of changes implemented since the November election, and keep in mind…she has only just begun. The changes span every aspect of government, and show some serious creativity.

Unlike the obvious communism of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Ms. Spanberger told party officials in a leaked conversation in 2020, “We need to not ever use the words’ socialist’ or ‘socialism’ ever again.” Lie to the public, in other words. Run as a moderate and govern as a socialist.

While many states are experiencing and investigating massive fraud situations, Democrats in Virginia are facilitating fraud. Virginia Democrats have introduced HB 1369, which prohibits state agencies that hand out federal funds from requiring nonprofits to “determine, verify, or otherwise require proof of eligibility of any applicant for such benefits.” With no checks or balances, it is just take the money and run.

A proposed constitutional amendment would allow the Democratic-controlled legislature to gerrymander the state’s congressional districts. Virginia now has six Democrats and five Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives. Redistricting would give Democrats 10 of the 11 seats, thus greatly aiding their effort to take back the House.   

A slew of proposed bills attack election integrity:

• one bill allows counting absentee ballots up to three days after an election.
• Another limits the periods when officials can check voter registration lists for accuracy.
• Another prohibits hand counting of ballots originally tallied by machines.
• Still another gives local jurisdictions the right to run the “ranked choice voting” racket.
• A constitutional amendment would restore voting rights to convicted felons

Democrats are preaching affordability, but not Abigail:

•   HB 978 would add more fees on nearly every already-taxed transaction in the state, including vehicle repairs, dry cleaning, digital services, and dog walking.
• There is an 11% tax on purchases of guns and ammunition
• a new hotel tax
• a 10% tax on parking in Northern Virginia.
• The bill even adds 50 cents to every delivery by whatever means, including Amazon, FedEx, and Uber Eats.

Ms. Spanberger is also putting the state back into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, based in New York, which requires states to send taxpayer money to buy emissions credits to fund “green” projects. This will cost each household in Virginia an estimated $1,100 more in electric bills without doing a thing to lower the planet’s temperature.

Woke is officially back in Virginia:

• Proposed amendments would put abortion access and same-sex marriage into the state constitution.
• One bill establishes a 40-foot “buffer zone” around abortion clinics.
• Another lets schools keep parents in the dark about sexually explicit materials in libraries.  

And we cannot forget to help crime whenever we can:

• HB 863 abolishes mandatory minimum sentences for manslaughter, rape, sexual assault, and distributing child pornography. Why do Democrats have such a soft spot in their hearts for rapists, murderers, and child molesters?

This is a sad but true story. When these Democrats, Socialists, Communists, or whatever they want to call themselves manage to fool the public, this is what we get- a city, state, or country that we barely recognize.
