Climate Scientist Throws Tantrum After Trump Admin Overturns Obama-Era Finding

Climate scientist Michael Mann criticized the Trump administration Tuesday over the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) repealing an Obama administration regulation that imposed over $1 trillion in costs.

President Donald Trump announced the repeal of the EPA’s 2009 Endangerment Finding declaring so-called “greenhouse gasses” as a harmful form of air pollution on Feb. 12. Mann claimed during a discussion with “Democracy Now” host Amy Goodman that the action was in defiance of the Supreme Court.

“That’s actually the single greatest assault that we’ve seen from the administration on climate action, is the effort to — well, now that they’ve at least temporarily overturned the endangerment finding, which was a finding by the Supreme Court, they’ve been blaming this on the Obama Administration,” Mann claimed. “No, it was the Supreme Court that found that indeed, the EPA was required to regulate carbon dioxide pollution from fossil fuel burning, and it was then two years later, it was actually codified by the EPA.”

“It is the primary means by which the United States has been able to meet its obligations to the rest of the world when it comes to limiting carbon emissions,” Mann continued. “The endangerment finding is basically the policy vehicle that allows for the regulation of carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants. It’s the primary vehicle that allows the government to regulate fuel efficiency standards, and it was because of that endangerment finding that the Obama Administration was able to keep its promises to the rest of the world, and that was critical for reaching global agreements like the Paris Agreement.”

Mann, who falsely claimed to be a Nobel Prize recipient, attempted to bankrupt “National Review” via litigation over an opinion piece by columnist Mark Steyn that cited a blog post by Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) scholar Rand Simberg which compared Mann to disgraced Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. In 2021, National Review and CEI were dropped from the suit.

Even though Mann won his defamation case, he was only awarded $1 in compensatory damages each from Simberg and Steyn and was then found to have misled the jury as to how much grant money he lost out on. Mann was the proponent of the so-called “hockey stick” used by many to demand massive regulations on “greenhouse gasses.”

“And, of course, we know that Trump has even pulled out of the Paris Agreement now, so the Trump Administration is doing the bidding of the fossil fuel industry,” Mann claimed. “That was basically spelled out in Project 2025. They said this was what they were gonna do, and this is what they are doing.”

Mann was forced to resign from his position at the University of Pennsylvania after he made and shared a series of social media posts in the days following the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk, describing Kirk as “the head of Trump’s Hitler Youth” and also claiming that the former TPUSA CEO had “direct involvement in Jan 6 planning and incitement.”
