Did Elizabeth and Zohran Not Get the Memo

There was a rare moment at this year’s State of the Union speech that is getting very little attention, and it should, because it may actually be a sign of a much bigger movement. Trump was going through his list of accomplishments and scattered in the introduction of Americans seated in the gallery to help make a point, when he mentioned his proposed ban on legislators trading individual stock while in office. His proposal, called the Stop Insider Trading Act, is in response to the belief that Nancy Pelosi has amassed a fortune with one of the most successful stock portfolios in America, which is influenced greatly by information she receives in advance of the average trader. Pelosi and her husband have seen their net worth grow to over $100 million based on their successful trading. Of course, Pelosi is not the only member of Congress, on both sides, who traded knowledge for profits in the market. A lone Democrat, Elizabeth Warren (Socialist/MA), stood and was seen reacting to Democrats around her, shocked by the betrayal of the sit-and-be-silent edict from Party leadership. This action by Warren is not just a dent in the armor; it is a crack bigger than the one in the Liberty Bell.

So far this week, we have seen Al Green escorted out of his second straight SOTU address for holding up a banner labeling Trump a racist. At the same time, we have seen Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) ditch his shorts and hoodie for an actual suit and tie that he wore to the SOTU out of respect for the President of the United States being in the chamber. We saw Zohran Mamdani, the beleaguered Democratic Socialist Mayor of New York City, make his second trip to the Oval Office to pitch his plan to build thousands of housing units and to request the administration release a temporarily detained Columbia University student, according to City Hall. This relationship between Trump and Mamdani shows how two leaders from the extremes of the left and right can work together. Elizabeth Warren had made a similar trip to visit the President despite his calling her Pocahontas for years.

Gretchen Whitmer praised Donald Trump during her State of the State speech this week in Michigan. Big Gretch, as she calls herself, was talking about the rebirth of manufacturing and related jobs in Michigan and gave credit to Trump for the initiative. She referred to her praise as not being on her bingo card.

These acts individually do not meet the level of the Abraham Accord, but taken collectively, could give credibility to the thought that some members of the Democrat Party recognize that their unified and unconditional hatred of Donald Trump is not going to get the Party back in the game in Washington. Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries have been successful to this point in controlling their Party, but that appears to be wearing thin. They may have fringe players dancing with frogs in Portland, but some of the wiser players are gaining entrance to the Oval Office.
