Secretary Markwayne Mullin may only be on the job for a couple of weeks, but he has already gotten under the skin of California Governor Gavin Newsom. The proposed plan by Mullin shows he will think outside the box and is serious about thwarting the protection of illegal aliens and criminals by Democratic Governors and Mayors. The plan would pull DHS employees from any international airport located in a sanctuary city. This action would halt customs operations at these airports, thereby preventing international flights from landing and discharging passengers.
There are others, but these are the cities that would experience a major impact:
• Chicago, IL — Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW): O’Hare is a primary international gateway.
• Denver, CO — Denver International Airport (DEN): Large international airport serving many global routes.
• Los Angeles, CA — Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): One of the busiest international airports in the U.S.
• New Orleans, LA — Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY): Handles international flights.
• New York City, NY — John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR, serving the NYC metro area): JFK and EWR are major international hubs.
• Newark, NJ — Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): Major international airport (often grouped with NYC metro).
• Philadelphia, PA — Philadelphia International Airport (PHL): Offers numerous international routes.
• Portland, OR — Portland International Airport (PDX): Serves international destinations.
• San Francisco, CA — San Francisco International Airport (SFO): Major international hub.
• Seattle, WA — Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA): Significant international traffic.
• Boston, MA — Boston Logan International Airport (BOS): Major hub with extensive international flights.
This action would put these areas at a tremendous economic disadvantage, and Governor Newsom’s first reaction was to call it a stupid idea. But, let’s hold on for a minute, Gavin, and what is the stupid idea? Penalizing the sanctuary cities of the country, or absolutely, to coin your grammar school vocabulary, the stupid idea to identify your state and all its major cities as sanctuary magnets for crime and lawlessness?
From Maine to California, every sanctuary city or state has proven to be a bad decision for the residents who are watching their neighborhoods turn into hoods and businesses close because they can no longer absorb the losses of “legal” shoplifting. Why take the time to stand in line at the checkout when you can steal just under the maximum, usually $800-$1000, and walk out the door? We have two democratic governors, separated by a continent but joined at the hip, philosophically driving their states into the ground as they both seek promotions and more power. Everyone knows that Newsom is already running for President, and Governor Janet Mills of Maine wants Susan Collins’s Senate seat. Both are facing term limits, or they would probably be content to stay where they are and just rake in the cash. Fortunately, both will be out of the office in January, and both are hellbent on doing as much damage as possible on the way out.
Mills is running a campaign that is focused on keeping ICE out of Maine and promoting the most liberal state in the country when it comes to abortion and transgender treatment for young adults without parental consent. Talk about proudly doing the work of the devil. She has also sat quietly and allowed the Chinese cartel to build over 300 illegal pot farms in rural central Maine. Her brother has made a fortune by facilitating financing for the properties used for the pot farms. She has also signed into law enough new tax bills to rival California in personal and business tax burdens.
Newsom is just as bad as he is the first governor to watch California lose seats in Congress because of the mass exodus of people and businesses heading to Texas, Florida, Tennessee, or any other Red state. Not everyone is leaving, as California has the highest number of homeless people living on the streets of any other state in the country. So, we have to ask you, Governor Newsom: who is really doing the “stupid” thing, and who is reacting to correct it? I think the answer is obvious.
