I have been debating as to what the Republican ticket will be in 2028. Vance/Rubio or Rubio/Vance. I think the Right can win with either combination, especially if it faces any combination of Newsom/Pritzker/Harris. I would pay to watch either Marco Rubio or JD Vance debate any of the potential Democratic nominees, and maybe they should keep the octagon ring set up on the White House lawn after the UFC Fight to celebrate America 250 as the debate scene. It might be the first time a white towel is thrown into a UFC cage as whoever the Democratic candidate is cries “No Mas” from his corner. The performances lately by the current Vice President and Secretary of State are evidence of the stark difference between the caliber of the Trump Administration and that of its counterparts in the Obama and Biden eras. It is like the best of Major League Baseball facing off against the Cape Cod League. It is no contest.
Both Marco, or Little Marco as Trump used to call him, and JD show that Trump can work with anyone who is capable and put past differences aside for the good of the mission. These three are the most unlikely of bedfellows if you look at their past relationships, but as a team, they are dominating the opposition, both domestically and around the Globe. Both nailed it at the Munich Security Conference in February of this year, and both received standing ovations from the international leaders they addressed. It has been talked about often how many hats Rubio has worn since becoming Secretary of State, with these assignments being the most notable:
Additional Concurrent / Acting Roles:
- Acting Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Appointed February 3, 2025 ? handed off in late August 2025.
- Acting Archivist of the United States (National Archives and Records Administration) Appointed February 2025 ? served until early February 2026.
- Interim / Acting National Security Advisor Appointed May 1, 2025 (after Mike Waltz’s departure) – ongoing alongside Secretary of State. He is only the second person in modern history (after Henry Kissinger) to hold both the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor roles at the same time.
Rubio and Susie Wiles are Trump’s go-to players who can do any job they are asked to perform and do it well, but the latest assignment for Marco Rubio may have been his most difficult, as he was asked to fill in for Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt while she is on maternity leave. (Side note: there is something much more natural about Caroline being a mom on leave and Pete Buttigieg doing the same while nursing his baby with fake breasts) Marco covered the press briefing on Tuesday and was eloquent and effective, aptly answering every question on a wide array of subjects while showing his humorous side as a bonus. Not once did he have to refer to a notebook or say he would have to circle back as he discussed heavy topics like the Iran conflict and the Constitutionality of the War Powers Resolution. With that unusual role for the Secretary, he may have nailed down the top spot on the ticket for me.
Both men are qualified to continue as head of the MAGA Movement and Leader of the Free World, but you have to give a nod to Rubio as he has more experience as a Senator, Secretary of State, and now Press Secretary on his resume. The country will be in good hands with Marco as #48 and Vance as #49 until Baron is ready to fill Dad’s shoes as #50 in 2044. I hope I am around to see the Left go apoplectic as Baron places his hand on the Bible and takes the oath. Keep those Trump for President signs handy.
