White House Secured Following Reports Of Multiple Gunshots

U.S. Secret Service agents scrambled to secure the White House after between 20 and 30 gunshots were reported outside the campus Saturday evening, where at least two people were hit by gunfire.

Some reports state the Secret Service officers shot a suspect and that a bystander was also injured. No law enforcement personnel have been injured.

The Secret Service has counter-snipers on the roof of the White House and is responding on the ground to the area where the shots were heard.

Reporters were rushed into the White House Press Briefing Room, NBC reporter Julie Tsirkin posted on X.

The FBI is assisting the US Secret Service in securing the grounds and determining the source of the gunfire.

Both the president and vice president were reportedly inside the White House at the time of the gunshots.

As of 7:30 pm EDT, the White House lockdown has been lifted and the threat deemed neutralized.
