Most Americans do not want artificial intelligence-powered news, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday.
Of those surveyed, just 7% said they rely “a great deal” or “a fair amount” on AI tools when getting news and information. Another 12% reported depending on AI technology “some” for news while 23% say “only a little,” according to Gallup’s poll.
The majority of Americans, 57%, said they do not use AI tools at all for this purpose, the survey shows.
Using AI tools to receive news and information is slightly more common among U.S. adults aged 18 to 49 (10%) than among those aged 50 and older (3%), but majorities of both age categories say they do not turn to AI at all when getting their news, the survey found.
Roughly one in five Americans say that their trust would increase if individuals could verify the information themselves with a separate source or if the news organization confirmed that a human editor had verified the information, Gallup reported.
The new poll also shows that about one in 10 U.S. adults each said it would bolster their trust if a human journalist reported the facts or if it was clearly stated that AI was used in the reporting. Thirty-nine percent of respondents say that the use of AI would lower their trust in the information outright, the survey found.
The poll’s release comes as many newsrooms have recently begun utilizing AI to produce some content. Over 9% of all news in U.S. newspapers includes at least some text produced by AI, research from University of Maryland computer scientists published in October 2025 found.

A survey from The Center Square released Tuesday suggests that many Americans believe there is presently not enough regulation on AI nationwide.
The survey’s results are based on a May 4-17 survey of 2,062 U.S. adults who are members of the Gallup Panel.
