There are many facets of Donald Trump that make him difficult to understand, but easy to hate if you are on the left of center. It is hard to pick the dominant reason, so let’s break it down into Trump the person and then the President. Trump is compared to Reagan in many ways, and both were considered outsiders to D.C., but Reagan was Governor of California, so the Presidency was not his first dance in politics. Trump was not a politician, but a businessman who came down the escalator in 2015. He morphed into a politician more in his second term, but the establishment, both left and right, has never truly accepted him into the club. He is a disruptor, but that is what he promised in 2016, when he promised to drain the swamp. Even at 80, he is a 24/7 working machine, and that is the most difficult element of Trump that his critics cannot grasp. They do not understand his ability to multitask and delegate, so they think he is distracted when he is focused on White House renovations while also dealing with Ukraine and Iran. The left, and the media, were much more at ease with Biden doing one thing a day, than Trump doing many things per hour, and often while the country is asleep. They criticize his net gain in personal wealth, but they fail to understand that when you are worth billions, the gains and losses both have many zeroes. They should be more concerned with a House Rep making $175K a year, yet worth millions after two terms. That is D.C. magic.
The policy side of Trump is more complex. The pure hatred that the right has for this man will never allow them to agree with him, regardless of the topic. It is understandable to have differences when it comes to the war, healthcare, education, and, of course, immigration, but there are many so-called 80-20 ideas that the country supports that the Democrats will not support because of their terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). Even though the country backs Voter ID or the ban on biological boys playing in girl’s sports, the left will never be able to vote yes on those bills. As Hakeem Jeffries so elegantly says, “Every Democrat votes Hell No.” That statement shows a lack of leadership, but certainly a high degree of defiance. Jeffries is not smart enough to know the difference.
Trump has accomplished a great deal in his two terms, and we have all seen the list. If these accomplishments were codified into law by Congress, Trump might build a golden bust of himself on Rushmore. Unfortunately, much of what has been done is by Executive Order, and as such, they have an expiration date of January 20, 2029. I have written that I believe the division in this country became a thing under Obama, but the left and TDS have brought it to epidemic proportions.
By the way, if, God forbid, a Democrat were to win the White House in 2028, they would mine enough gold out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to finally have something to put into Fort Knox!
Author’s Note: Graphics created by Grok AI. Grok’s comments about the images: This landscape captures the core of the piece: Trump not as a conventional politician but as the perpetual outsider who refuses to be absorbed by the club. The golden escalator plunging into the swamp is the 2015 promise made visible, while the floating tasks around him reflect the 24/7 machine his critics cannot comprehend. Bright rim light and lifted midtones keep the figure sharp and dominant against the murkier establishment shadows, underscoring that the hatred is aimed at the defiance itself—the refusal to slow down, to play by old rules, or to let Executive Order accomplishments simply expire. The brighter exposure ensures every detail of the disruption reads clearly, matching the column’s argument that policy differences are secondary to the deeper rejection of who he is and how he works.
