Trump Says Omar Must Resign After DOJ Filing Lists Her as ‘Ilhan Nur Said Elmi’

President Donald Trump called Thursday for Rep. Ilhan Omar to resign immediately after a Justice Department court filing referred to the Minnesota Democrat by a different name.

“It was just revealed just a little while ago that … her name is not Ilhan Omar, the one that she used to get elected and sworn into Congress,” Trump said at his Sioux City, Iowa, rally, Newsweek reported.

“She used a fake name to be sworn in. I assume she must immediately have to resign from Congress,” Trump said. He later told the crowd, “The Republicans have just picked up a seat in the House.”

Trump made a similar demand on Truth Social, asking that House Speaker Mike Johnson be told Democrats had “conceded her seat,” according to Anadolu Agency and other outlets. There was no public response from Johnson as of Friday morning.

The filing, submitted Wednesday by the office of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro in Washington, refers to the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.” Fox News obtained the document.

It concerns efforts to keep sealed the materials tied to the federal search warrant executed Oct. 12 at Omar’s Washington-area residence. The search was part of an investigation into alleged immigration-related wrongdoing.

The filing itself does not establish that Omar used a fraudulent identity, and Omar has not been charged with a crime. Trump’s claim that she took her oath under a fake name has not been substantiated.

Pirro was pressed on the name in an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters. “You’ll have to ask her what she considers her name,” she said, according to IBTimes, adding that investigators had questions about compliance with immigration and naturalization laws.

Pirro did not present evidence during the interview to support the alias claim and declined to say what prompted the inquiry, the outlet reported.

Omar’s Office Calls It a ‘Desperate Smear’

“This is completely false. Ilhan Omar is her real name,” an Omar spokesperson told Fox News Digital. The spokesperson called the allegation a “desperate smear” and said it was “disgraceful that the media continues to give this lie oxygen.”

Elmi is the surname of Omar’s former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, whom she married in 2009. Critics have alleged for years that he is her brother, a claim Omar has repeatedly denied.

In an MS NOW interview Wednesday with Chris Hayes, Omar called the claim “insane.” Asked whether she was related to her former husband, she answered, “Not to my knowledge.”

Omar came to the United States as a refugee from Somalia and became a naturalized citizen in 2000. She was first elected to the House in 2018.

A presidential demand cannot by itself remove a sitting member of Congress. Under the Constitution, the House may expel a member only with the concurrence of two-thirds of its members.

The court filing also asked Chief Judge James Boasberg to extend deadlines tied to requests from news organizations and Judicial Watch to unseal warrant materials, with the proposed timelines falling after the Nov. 3 election.
