A 21-year-old Daytona Beach woman was arrested early Friday and is being held without bond after authorities say she posted a social media threat to shoot President Donald Trump at his rally in her city.
Allison Albro posted a selfie Thursday night captioned, “Going to the trump rally in my city tmr so I can shoot him with my glock! wish me luck guys!!” the Observer reported, citing Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
Federal authorities flagged the post. The U.S. Secret Service alerted the sheriff’s Domestic Security Unit, and agents and deputies went to her home, FOX 35 reported, citing the arrest report.
Deputies said Albro was “emotionally upset” and “stated she knew why law enforcement was there.” She told them the post was “obviously a joke,” that she did not own a Glock and did not like guns.
She also said she would never hurt anyone, though she admitted she does not like the president. According to the report, her mother had warned her she could be arrested and told her to delete the post.
A search of the home turned up no weapons. Albro was booked into the Volusia County jail on charges of written threats to kill or do bodily injury and unlawful use of a communications device.
The state filed a motion for pretrial detention, and a judge ordered her held without bond, WESH reported. The sheriff’s office had announced strict security measures around the rally on Thursday.
Chitwood made clear the joke defense would not carry much weight. “We are not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president,” he wrote on Facebook.
“I would strongly advise anyone else thinking of posting a ‘joke’ along these lines to think twice,” Chitwood added, saying his office is working with the Secret Service, FBI and other partners to keep the visit safe.
Trump was scheduled to rally supporters Friday night at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, one of his final stops before Tuesday’s midterm election. Presidential visits bring heightened security, and the venue was already under tight protection.
Security around the president has been visibly heavy. Earlier Friday, surface-to-air missile systems were deployed at Mar-a-Lago and Donald J. Trump International Airport at the Secret Service’s request, WESH reported.
The systems are designed to defend against aerial threats, including aircraft and drones. Officials have not disclosed a specific reason for the deployment.
Threats against Trump carry particular weight after two assassination attempts during the 2024 campaign, including the Butler, Pennsylvania, shooting that grazed his ear and killed a rally attendee.
Two months later, a gunman lay in wait at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach. Ryan Routh was found guilty in September 2025 of trying to assassinate the then-candidate and was sentenced to life in prison.
Albro’s arrest shows how quickly a post can bring agents to the door. Within hours of the caption going up, federal and county investigators had located her, questioned her and searched her home.
