Anti-Gun Colorado Dems Recalled

With 100% of precincts reporting, Colorado voters have spoken and two anti-gun Democrats will lose their seats for their support of unpopular gun control legislation.

Sens. John Morse and Angela Giron were defeated in what the Colorado Republican Party called “a loud and clear message to out-of-touch Democrats across the nation.”

The recall was in response to highly controversial and ineffective gun control legislation limiting the magazine capacity of firearms. A move that caused a major firearms accessory manufacturer to begin moving operations out of the state.

Both Democrats will now be replaced by gun rights supporting Republicans Bernie Herpin and George Rivera.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper had been largely quiet during the recalls as he faces a similar fate in the 2014 election cycle. After the results, the Governor sought to change the public focus to other issues by asking voters to, “refocus again on what unites Coloradans — creating jobs, educating our children, creating a healthier state — and on finding ways to keep Colorado moving forward.”

The results mark the first time in state history that a recall has been used to remove sitting legislators. A clear signal that following the White House’s lead may not be politically beneficial.

Many voiced concerns that debate on the gun control legislation was cut short indicating that legislators were more interested in toeing Obama’s line on gun restrictions than listening to constituents.
