Born to a Kuwaiti mother and Palestinian father, Muhammad was born in Kuwait in 1990 and has since become a naturalized citizen.
SITE Intelligence Group reported that three days before the attack, Abdulazeez posted that “life is short and bitter” and the Muslims should not let “the opportunity to submit to Allah … pass you by” in a blog.
Abdulazeez visited the Middle East between April and November of 2014. Questions remain over what contacts he made and if that trip is the source of his radicalization.
His last name, Abdulazeez, means “servant of the almighty” in Arabic.
Kagan Wagner, who attended Red Bank High School with Abdulazeez, said he was a quiet kid, but well-liked. “He was friendly, funny, kind,” she said . “I never would have thought it would would be him.” In the year book from that high school, Abdulazeez said of himself, “My name causes national security alerts. What does yours do?”
The only known prior criminal offense for Abdulazeez was a DUI charge in 2015.
The F.B.I. says that Abdulazeez was previously unknown to them.
His residence on the day of the attack was thought to be 1902 Colonial Way Circle in Hixson, TN just across the river from the two military centers that were attacked.
