John Bolton’s “False Flag” Comment Wasn’t What Media Made Of It

The Washington Post jumped on John Bolton’s comments about alleged Russian hacking saying that Bolton accused the Obama administration of being responsible for a false flag attack.

John Bolton, a former U.N. ambassador reportedly being considered for deputy secretary of state in the Trump administration, said Sunday that reports of Russian interference in the presidential election may be a “false flag” conjured up by the Obama administration.

Bolton is a highly-regarded former Ambassador to the United Nations and certainly understands how serious an accusation like that would be – which is why he never made such a claim. The WaPo article takes many phrases out of context from a Sunday interview on Fox News’ Eric Shawn Reports in which Bolton actually said, “It’s not at all clear to me just viewing this from the outside that this hacking into the DNC and the RNC computers was not a false flag operation.” What the former ambassador never does is blame the White House for the attack.

During the same interview, he did say that he believed the CIA had become politicized by the Obama administration, but that is a far cry from claiming the White House had conducted a false flag hacking attack at the DNC and then tried to push it off on Russia.

In another interview on Monday, Bolton made reference to the Washington Post “fake news” article and made clear that he had in no way said the White House was behind the hack nor does he think it now.

As Bolton points out, “it’s typical bad reporting” otherwise now known as “Fake News.”
