Report: President Trump Asked FBI to Drop Flynn Investigation

President Trump asked FBI Director James Comey to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

A memo by Comey said that he was asked by the president to “let this go” in reference to the Flynn investigation. The conversation allegedly took place in the Oval Office in February.

“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go, “Trump told Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

Conflicting Comey’s memo was testimony, under oath, to Congress by Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe. When asked if the White House had interfered in any way with ongoing investigations, McCabe told lawmakers that no such interference had occurred.

Another concern is that Comey failed to alert Congress of the alleged interference when it occurred as is his duty.

The FBI has not commented.

The White House issued a statement that also refutes Comey’s recollection of the Oval Office meeting.

“While the president has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country, the president has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn,” the White House said. “The president has the utmost respect for our law enforcement agencies and all investigations. This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the president and Mr. Comey.”

It is also interesting that a story about a 3-month old memo broke the same day that new evidence emerged indicating that the source of the 2016 election interference was a murdered DNC staffer. Democrats have long blamed Russia for the DNC email leaks that they believe irreparably damaged Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
